There are many active groups at St John’s. For more information about any of these groups, or if you would like to know more about the life and activities of St John’s then please speak to one of our Ministry Team or contact the Church Office.
Sceptics meets on the last Sunday of the month after the Sung Eucharist to discuss challenging issues arising from the day’s readings and sermon. They meet in the chapel.
The Growth Group meets monthly on a Tuesday evening, beginning with a simple shared meal, to discuss contemporary issues affecting our faith.
The Walking Groups organise monthly walks on Saturdays and Thursdays of varying difficulty – an opportunity to walk and talk together in the countryside.
The Choir sing at three services each Sunday and meet each Thursday to rehearse.
Three Book Groups meet on a monthly basis in different members’ homes to discuss their current choice of reading. A Theological Book Group also meets on a monthly basis
The Gardening Group meet regularly to work on the church grounds.
The Social Committee organise a range of activities throughout the year aimed specifically at providing opportunities for us to meet together in a social context.
Our own JUST FESTIVAL takes place during August and also organises events at other times of the year.
From Easter until the end of September, a group of volunteers called Guardians offer a warm welcome and information about the church to around 20,000 visitors who come through our doors.
Hospitality and openness to the stranger are expressions of love – a love which means that the stranger becomes a friend. At St John’s it is made real by the ministry of the Guardians as well as our welcome before, during and after services. Tourist, worshipper or curious local – all are welcome at St John’s! We currently have around 50 Guardians, taking turns to staff the church for a couple of hours at a time.
If you would like to join us, please contact the church office.
